Wavelets in undergraduate (!) education

Ten years ago when I was a post-graduate student, the subject of my interest were so called wavelets—mathematical functions which resemble harmonical ones, but are much closer to physics and real world. In the same manner as you can interpret any signal as a sum of sine waves, you can compose any real world signal as a sum of a bunch of wavelets, that is a sum of small waves located in time. Well, the name itself is wavelet, or small wave.

They first appeared in early 1980s and at the time I worked with them were considered extremely modern technic. Although today my work is quite far from wavelets, I still read news about them. Recent issue of Wavelet digest reports about a meeting on teaching basics of wavelets theory in undergraduate educational process. Awesome! Less than ten yeas ago the subject was not widely spread even among people who work with signal processing and scientists; tomorrow it will be taught at schools.
